The NAEC CET™ Certification program is an approximate 4-year learning process that will qualify you to sit for a Certification Exam to achieve a CET (Certified Elevator Technician) Certification.
The program includes all aspects of the elevator industry including Maintenance, Repair, Modernization Installation, Inspection, Testing and Code requirements of Elevator and Escalator equipment.
The CET Certification qualifies you in most states that require licensing.
The program does not include CET curriculum books; the applicant must purchase books directly from Elevator World.

Level 1 Training Summary
Level 1 is the program’s Core Curriculum. CET Level 1 is the first of four (4) courses of the program consisting of 11 units, and will take approximately two (2) years to complete. Course units consist of three basic parts: text-based workbook, on the job skills verification, and unit/course exams. Upon successful completion of the Core Curriculum, all the Unit Exams, all the Skills Verifications, all required courses, required on the job training, and the CET Level 1 Exam, the candidate will become an AET (Associate Elevator Technician) and receive a certificate.
Level 2 Training Summary
Level 2 is the program’s Advanced Curriculum. Level 2 consists of 8 courses and will take approximately two (2) years to complete. Course units consist of three basic parts: text-based workbook, on the job skills verification, and unit/course exams. Upon successful completion of the Advanced Curriculum, all the Unit Exams, all required Skills Verifications, all required courses, required on-the-job training and the Level 2 Exam, the candidate will be awarded a Certificate of Completion and can then apply for CET Certification.
Examples of Unit Learning
Unit 2 – Basic Print Reading
This unit contains five chapters of information instruction on prints commonly used in the elevator industry. Additionally, detailed information and instruction are provided on print terminology, drawing to scale, and interpretation and conversion of these scales to actual size and location, installation drawings, drawings and layout, and tolerances and fasteners.
Unit 7 – Hoistway Equipment
This unit contains five chapters and an Appendix with information related to car and counterweight assemblies, elevator rope and roping, hydraulic components, elevator rope nomenclature, safety barrier, ventilation fans, top-of-car operating device, door gate operators, selectors and installing fixtures. Information is also provided on accessibility requirements to accommodate the physically impaired.
Unit 11 – Maintenance of Escalators and Moving Walks
Unit 11 is a unit you will use to study and prepare for the Certified Elevator Technician (CET) Level 1 Examination sponsored by the National Association of Elevator Contractors (NAEC) and is one of four units focusing on maintenance and trouble shooting. This unit contains four chapters and three appendices with information related to maintenance of the exterior and interior of escalators and moving walks.
